Halsey has unveiled her fifth studio album, The Great Impersonator. The singer, who uses she/they pronouns, shared a nostalgic trailer for the upcoming confessional concept album, as reported by sources.
In the teaser, Halsey reflects on the possibility of this album being their last. The video features the 29-year-old You Should Be Sad artist in retro outfits, pondering how they might have been different if they had debuted in past decades. What if I started in the ’80s? The ’70s? Am I still Halsey in every era? they muse.
The trailer shows Halsey channeling iconic figures like David Bowie and Britney Spears, with snippets of new music evoking various musical styles from different decades. The video ends with Halsey’s question, if it all ended now, would you be proud of what’s left behind?
Ahead of the album’s release, Halsey has dropped three singles: The End, Lucky, and Lonely Is the Muse. In June, shortly after releasing The End, Halsey shared on Instagram about their ongoing health struggles, including lupus and a rare lymphoproliferative disorder, both of which are being managed.
Recently, Halsey also expressed frustration with negative feedback from fans on Tumblr, revealing their struggle with returning to the music scene amidst criticism.
