Bangalore’s metro network will expand with a new red line, as the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been submitted by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and received initial approval from the state government. Final approval from the Central Government is still pending.
The proposed red line will span 28 stations and four interchange stations, covering major areas of Bangalore. The stations on this line will include Python, Ganganagar, Veterinary College, Mekhri Circle, Palace Guttahalli, Golf Club, Basaveshwar Circle, KR Circle, Town Hall, Shantinagar, NIMHANS, Dairy Circle, Koramangala 2nd Block, Koramangala 3rd Block, Jacksandra, Agar, Two, Belladur Gate, Kaikondralli, Doddakannalli, Karmelaram, Ambedkar Nagar, Kodati Gate, Muttanallur, Dommasandra, Mustard, Kada Agrahara Road, and Sarjapur.
Interchange stations will be located at Hebbal (connecting the red, saffron, and blue lines), KR Circle (red and purple lines), Dairy Circle (pink and red lines), and Agra (red and blue lines). The project is estimated to cost ₹28,405 crore. Land acquisition and construction are anticipated to start next year, with the line potentially opening by 2030, pending state and central government approvals.
Additionally, the metro green line will be extended from Nagasandra to Madavara starting next month. The yellow route is expected to begin by the end of this year, and the pink route is planned for 2025. The central government has also approved two new routes: one from JP Nagar Phase 4 Outer Ring Road to Kempapura in Hebbal, and another from Hosahalli to Kadabagere.
