Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao Initiates Innovative Mosquito Control Measures
The Health Department and the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) have taken a significant step towards controlling the spread of diseases like dengue and malaria by launching the installation of OV trap devices in Gopalpur, Bengaluru. These devices are designed to attract and eliminate Aedes mosquitoes, the primary carriers of these infections. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao officially inaugurated the program today.
As part of the initiative, 120 OV trap devices have already been deployed in Gopalpur. These bio devices are effective in luring and destroying Aedes mosquitoes, which are known for spreading dengue, malaria, and Zika virus. The BBMP and the Health Department aim to bring mosquito-borne diseases under control by strategically placing these traps in areas with high mosquito density.
Speaking to the media after the launch, Minister Gundu Rao emphasized the potential of bio devices in combating mosquito-borne diseases. He mentioned that similar experiments have been conducted successfully in Mumbai’s Dharavi slum area, and based on the results in Bengaluru, there may be plans to expand the installation of OV trap devices statewide.
