The Special POCSO Court sentenced six individuals to life imprisonment in the Ajmer blackmail case, also known as the Ajmer sex scandal on Tuesday. Each of the convicted individuals was also fined Rs 5 lakh. The charge sheet was filed on June 23, 2001, and the trial concluded in July this year. All six were present in court for the sentencing.
The 1992 Ajmer case shocked the nation, revealing that around 100 girls were blackmailed with obscene photos after being molested. Tragically, six girls committed suicide due to the harassment. Out of the original 18 accused, nine have been sentenced, while four were later acquitted by the High Court.
One accused, Purushottam alias Babli, committed suicide in 1994 while on bail, and another, Almas Maharaj, remains at large. One individual was tried separately for molesting a boy. The verdict for the remaining six was delivered on Tuesday.
