In the Excise Policy case, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has extended Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody until August 27, 2024. The court, led by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, scheduled the next hearing for that date to also address the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) supplementary chargesheet against Kejriwal and others.

Last week, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the CBI in response to Kejriwal’s bail pleas and his challenge to the Delhi High Court’s decision that upheld his arrest. The Supreme Court, consisting of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan, has requested the CBI to respond by August 23 but denied interim bail to Kejriwal.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, argued that if Kejriwal could obtain interim bail in a money laundering case, he should also be granted regular bail in the CBI case, given the Prevention of Corruption Act’s less stringent conditions compared to the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
