Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has assured that he will put in all efforts to secure an Italian visa for Suhas Dharwad, who has been accepted at the University of Trento to study for an MS in human-computer interaction.
Joshi said he has obtained all the details of the student, and will pursue the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Union Minister S Jaishankar.
We will request the MEA to intervene in this issue, he added.
Sources in Joshi’s office said they have already communicated with the MEA on the issue, and are waiting for a positive response. As Suhas approached us on Saturday, there was no response from the ministry due to weekend holidays, they added.
Suhas said Joshi spoke to him and his parents, at his residence on Monday and listened to all details and responded positively. As we drew his attention to the university’s decision to drop me from the course if I fail to join by the end of September, Joshi assured us not to worry, he added.
Suhas’s father, Lingaraj, said that they are now hopeful of fulfilling Suhas’s aspiration of studying in Italy, and helping physically challenged persons after pursuing his MS. The Italian Embassy has rejected Suhas’s visa application, citing insufficient documents pertaining to the source of income.
