New Delhi

After more than a year away from Karnataka cricket and over seven years since his last appearance for India, Karun Nair is determined to make a comeback, using the Maharaja Trophy T20 league as his platform. Leading the Mysuru Warriors, who narrowly lost to Hubli Tigers in last year’s final, Nair is focused on securing the title this season. His performance in the 2023 campaign was exceptional, as he topped the run charts with 532 runs in 12 innings at an impressive strike rate of 162.69.

At 32, Nair sees this season as crucial for both his personal and professional resurgence. Despite limited opportunities in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the past six years, he believes he still has much to offer. After a year of minimal play with Karnataka, Nair switched to Vidarbha for the 2023-24 season, seeking more consistent game time. His immediate goal is to lead the Warriors to victory while continuing his journey back to international cricket.

Reflecting on his journey, Nair shared, ‘The last year has been good. After last year’s Maharaja T20, I had a solid domestic season.’ His efforts included scoring 690 runs for Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy and a match-winning 95’ in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Nair also made an impact in English county cricket, amassing 487 runs, including a career-best 202’.

Confident in his current form, Nair remains focused on making the most of any opportunities that come his way, keeping his dream of returning to Test cricket alive.
