Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday announced that a comprehensive report on the recent landslides in Wayanad, which caused significant loss and displacement, will be submitted to the Centre soon. He explained that preparing this detailed report, which includes assessing damages and creating a rehabilitation plan, is a complex task and will require more time.

The landslides on July 30 devastated four villages in Wayanad, resulting in 416 deaths and 128 people missing. Rescue operations continue as teams search for the missing along the Chaliyar River and in affected areas. Currently, over 11,000 people are living in 115 relief camps.

CM Vijayan outlined the rehabilitation plan, starting with relocating families from relief camps. The government has identified 100 government buildings, 253 private homes for rent, and 100 homes provided for free. Families will receive Rs 6,000 per month for rent.

Compensation details include Rs 6 lakh for families of the deceased and additional Rs 75,000 for those with disabilities. Dependants of the missing will receive similar benefits once formalities are completed. An expert committee led by John Mathai is assessing the affected areas, and a LiDAR survey will be conducted by NIT Suratkal to guide reconstruction efforts.

Additionally, two camps have been set up to assist domestic animals. The Chief Minister has requested financial aid from the Centre for rehabilitation and shared the state’s needs with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the affected areas.
