The much-anticipated Kannada film Balaramana Dinagalu has officially entered the dubbing stage, signaling the completion of its shoot. Directed by KM Chaitanya, best known for the cult classic Aa Dinagalu, this new venture revisits the raw, gritty world of Bengaluru’s underworld during the 1980s and 1990s.
K M Chaitanya told CH, “This is my tenth film as director and the 25th film of actor Vinod Prabhaakar. So it is a special film for us. For me, to be visiting a genre 18 years after my debut in the same genre has been challenging and exciting.”
Shot over 80 days across a variety of striking locations including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Shivamogga, and Sakaleshpur, the film is expected to be a compelling blend of period drama and emotional storytelling. Notably, scenes were also filmed at the old Shivamogga jail to authentically recreate the atmosphere of old Bengaluru from the ’80s and ’90s.
According to insiders, Balaramana Dinagalu is shaping up to be a sequel to Aa Dinagalu, bringing back familiar tones while introducing new layers. The story delves deep into the lives of characters from the city’s underworld, while also exploring the political and economic dynamics of that era.
Produced under the Padmavati Films banner by Padmavati Jayaram and Shreyas, this marks their debut in Kannada cinema production. The film stars Vinod opposite Priya Anand, promising a fresh on-screen pairing. The ensemble cast also includes stalwarts like Atul Kulkarni and Ashish Vidyarthi, along with Bigg Boss fame Vinay Gowda and several recognizable faces from both Kannada and other film industries.
Adding to the excitement is the music, composed by the acclaimed Santhosh Narayanan, who is making his Kannada debut with this film. Cinematography is handled by Venu, adding a visual depth to this period piece.
With post-production underway, Balaramana Dinagalu is gearing up to deliver a gripping narrative set in one of the most intriguing chapters of Bengaluru’s past.
