The Congress government has decided to rename Ramanagara district as Bangalore South in Karnataka, leading to strong reactions from Hindu groups. The decision comes 500 years after the construction of the grand temple of Lord Sri Rama in Ayodhya, which has been celebrated nationwide.
Hindu organizations have condemned this decision, arguing that it undermines the significance of Lord Rama, who is revered across India. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti criticized the Congress party, pointing out that the party had previously dismissed Lord Rama as fictional and had not attended the installation ceremony of Sri Ram Lalla’s idol. They argue that the renaming of Ramanagara adds to the grievances of the Hindu community.
The Samiti has questioned whether the Congress party has made similar efforts to rename places associated with historical figures such as Aurangzeb or Tughlaq, who are linked to controversial periods in Indian history. They have called for the state government to address the names of Islamic cities and towns in Karnataka as well.
The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has announced that if the decision to rename Ramanagara is not reversed, there will be strong public opposition. The group has warned that Hindu society may resort to protests if their concerns are not addressed.
