The search operation for the victims of the Shirur landslide on the National Highway near Shirur in Ankola Taluk, Uttara Kannada District, has been suspended after 13 days of effort. Despite continuous work by drowning experts and the involvement of the DC, SP, Navy, and Army, no clues have been found about the three missing individuals.
A meeting of Kerala MLAs, Karwar MLAs, and officials decided to halt the search temporarily due to the lack of results. The operation, which involved scuba diving at a site identified by the Army, Navy, and a retired Army team, was discontinued after only rocks and soil were found.
For the past 13 days, Kannada media has provided extensive coverage of the incident. Manjeshwar MLA Ashraf praised the media for their unbiased reporting and their efforts to highlight the situation. He noted that no remnants of the lorry involved have been found, which he described as disheartening. Ashraf emphasized the need for both state governments to address the operation’s outcome and seek a resolution.
Despite advanced technology and military support, the challenging conditions of the river have made it difficult to locate the survivors. Efforts to find Arjun and the others have been unsuccessful so far.
