A severe flood situation has arisen in the district, affecting 40 villages due to the overflow of seven rivers. The Ghataprabha River, in particular, has caused significant disruption, flooding bridges, temples, banks, and homes. The taluks of Gokak, Nippani, Athani, Mudalagi, Hukkeri, and Kagavada have been heavily impacted.
Currently, 41 connecting bridges are submerged, and over 1,000 families have been displaced, leaving them on the streets. About 3,500 people are being housed in 20 care centers, while 1,800 have found refuge with relatives or on farms. More than 80 villages are isolated due to road blockages and damaged bridges.
In Gokak city, approximately 300 houses have been flooded, with only one road connection remaining operational. District Commissioner Mohammad Roshan and local MLAs Ramesh Jarakiholi and Ganesh Hukkeri have visited affected areas to assess the situation. The Yadoora Kadsiddeshwar temple has also been flooded, with priests conducting rituals in the water.
In Musuguppi, over 600 houses have been inundated, and residents have moved to care centers with their livestock. The Uddamma Devi temple in Udagatti is also under water. Patagundi village in Mudalagi taluk has seen water enter over 150 houses and surrounding farmland.
Sundholi village is similarly affected, with water flooding the Jadisiddheshwar temple and nearby shops. In Matolli village, concerns have risen due to the presence of crocodiles in the area, with one large crocodile recently spotted on the riverbank. The ongoing floods have caused widespread fear and disruption.
