The two 1,000 MW nuclear power plants at Kudankulam, Tamil Nadu, have generated 100 billion kWh of electricity for the Indian power grid, according to Rosatom, the Russian nuclear power company. Rosatom reports that these plants are running smoothly and efficiently, exceeding their expected performance.

The success of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is attributed to effective design, reliable equipment, and high-quality construction. This project benefited from close collaboration between Indian and Russian teams, combining their expertise to create a high-tech and safe industrial facility. Alexey Zhukov, ASE JSC’s First Vice President for Construction, praised the joint effort that led to this achievement.

India’s Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) operates the two existing 1,000 MW plants (Units 1 and 2) at Kudankulam, with four more units (Units 3 through 6) currently under construction. All six units use Russian technology and equipment from Rosatom, which is also supplying the fuel for the plants throughout their operational life. Major equipment for the third and fourth units has already arrived from Russia.
