Due to a lack of proof, the Calcutta High Court on Friday dismissed a FIR against BJP MP Saumitra Khan of the Bishnupur constituency in West Bengal.
The state police’s First Information Report against Khan was dismissed by a one-judge panel led by Justice Suvra Ghosh.
According to the police’s FIR, Khan allegedly used derogatory language against the inspector in charge of the Sonamukhi Police Station in 2023 while the leader was staging a protest against purported financial irregularities in a self-help group run by women in Sonamukhi.

Given that Khan is an elected member of the Lok Sabha, the MP-MLA Court in Bidhannagar, Kolkata, was the venue for the hearing of the FIR that was filed against him.
But Khan has filed an appeal with the Calcutta High Court, requesting that the FIR be quashed.
Khan is a Bishnupur native and three-time member of the Lok Sabha. In 2014, he won his first term as an MP while running as a candidate for the All India Trinamool Congress. He afterwards joined the BJP and won two elections from the same seat in 2019 and 2024.
