New Delhi
Delhi High Court scheduled a hearing for August 1 on a plea by former cricketer Kirti Azad on Monday. Azad is seeking the appointment of an administrator for the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) and requests that the Electoral Roll be updated to follow a one family, one vote rule, leading to new elections.
Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain set the date for consideration, though Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, representing Azad, asked for the case to be transferred to a Division Bench, citing its nature as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL).
Azad’s plea calls for a fair and transparent membership system at the DDCA, including a clear waiting list for applicants. The petition argues that current membership practices are ad-hoc and favor certain individuals, creating a monopoly within the association. It also claims that DDCA officials use the flawed membership system to place their relatives in official positions and manipulate voting processes, leading to illegal and unfair elections.
The previous bench had requested responses from all parties involved. Azad’s plea highlights concerns about the lack of guidelines for membership, fraudulent voting practices, and the strategic granting of memberships to create family monopolies.
