Congress MP Shashi Tharoor called it very strange that the central government has lifted the ban on government employees participating in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activities. Speaking to source outside Parliament on Monday, Tharoor criticized the decision, emphasizing that government employees should remain neutral and serve everyone impartially. He questioned why the Narendra Modi government chose to change this rule now after maintaining it for ten years.
The Ministry of Personnel’s new order allowing government employees to join RSS activities has sparked controversy and opposition criticism. Union Minister Ramdas Athawale dismissed the debate, stating that all parties have employees who support them, as long as it remains within limits.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi condemned the order as shameful, suggesting it allows bureaucrats to act based on personal ideologies rather than serving the nation impartially. She likened the situation to earlier practices of using government agencies for political purposes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya defended the move, noting that the government has overturned an unconstitutional order that had been in place for 58 years.
