Kolkata
US Ambassador Eric Garcetti enjoyed an e-scooter ride in Kolkata’s New Town area on Saturday. He praised transportation sharing systems for promoting sustainable transit. In a post on X, Garcetti shared, as a former mayor, I love seeing city leaders improve their communities. I thoroughly enjoyed my e-scooter ride in New Town Kolkata, a planned Green City. Technology-led public transportation sharing systems are great for promoting sustainable transit, advancing electric vehicle adoption, and improving health for everyone.
Highlighting the strong India-US relations, Garcetti noted the increased cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. He mentioned that the US’s trust in India led to the approval of selling advanced jet engine technology to India, a move not extended to some of America’s closest allies.
Recalling PM Modi’s visit to the US, Garcetti mentioned that both nations had 173 collaborative projects. He emphasized the significance of such a large number of initiatives, stating that achieving even five or ten projects during a state visit is impressive. He highlighted educational partnerships and cutting-edge research, including efforts to cure diseases and cancer.
Garcetti commended the US’s trust in India, stating, the trust that the United States has for India resulted in the approval of selling our most exquisite jet engine technology, something that we haven’t even done with some of our closest allies, and the exercises that we are doing to ensure our people know each other.
