Director Indrajit Lankesh is preparing to launch his son, Samarajit Lankesh, in the upcoming film Gowri, scheduled for release on August 15. This youth-oriented commercial film has generated excitement not only for its entertainment value but also for its emotional tribute to Indrajit’s late sister, Gauri Lankesh, a journalist and activist who was murdered in 2017.
As a heartfelt homage, Indrajit has dedicated a song to Gauri. Recently, the filmmakers released two tracks, one of which highlights Gauri’s journey through previously unseen photos, accompanied by poignant lyrics written by K Kalyan. The song, composed by Jassie Gift, features vocals by Kailash Kher.
Indrajit emphasizes that while the film is named after his sister, it does not recount her tragic story. There’s a misunderstanding that Gauri’s incident is part of the film’s plot. I want to clarify that we are honoring her memory without using her story for promotion, he explains.
He adds that the song’s lyrics were crafted to symbolize Gauri’s essence and seamlessly integrate into the film’s romantic thriller narrative. Kalyan, who knew Gauri personally, contributed to the lyrics, often jotting down ideas on napkins during their discussions.
In addition, the film features another romantic track titled Muddada, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Indrajit’s film Monalisa. Alongside Samarajit, Gowri stars Sanya Iyer in her debut role, along with Sweezal and Chandu Gowda, and is supported by music from Jassie Gift and Chandan Shetty, with cinematography by AJ Shetty.
