Mumbai Has Secures Signing Of Greek Forward Nikolaos Karelis

Mumbai City FC announced on Thursday that they have signed Nikolaos Karelis to a one-year contract, keeping him with the club until the end of the 2024-25 season. The club expressed their excitement in a statement, stating, Mumbai City FC is thrilled to welcome Nikolaos Karelis on board for the upcoming season.

Karelis, who began his career at Greek club Ergotelis at the age of 16, made his debut in the 2007-08 Greek Super League season finale, becoming Ergotelis’ youngest player to feature in a league match. He has since played prominently for Greek clubs such as Panathinaikos, PAOK, and most recently, Panetolikos, where he served as captain. His journey has also taken him abroad to clubs like Genk in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League, ADO Den Haag in the Netherlands Eredivisie, Brentford in the English Championship, and Amkar Perm in the Russian Premier League.

The 32-year-old striker has made significant contributions in the UEFA Europa League, featuring for both Panathinaikos and Genk and scoring four goals in 12 appearances. Known for his versatility and attacking prowess, Karelis has amassed 103 goals and 29 assists in his career spanning 361 games.

Having represented Greece extensively at youth levels, Karelis transitioned to the senior national team, scoring on his debut against Finland in the UEFA Euro 2016 Qualifiers. He has earned 19 caps for his country, scoring three goals.

Karelis brings leadership, a unique playing style, and vast experience to Mumbai City FC as they prepare for the upcoming season, aiming to bolster the team’s aspirations.
