Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in Vienna on Wednesday that India and Austria have identified new possibilities to enhance mutual cooperation and are set to steer their bilateral ties strategically. Speaking alongside Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, PM Modi, who arrived from Moscow, mentioned discussions on global geopolitical issues.
We thoroughly discussed ongoing global conflicts, including Ukraine and West Asia, reiterating that this is a time for peace, PM Modi stated. He underscored the bolstering of India-Austria relations through shared trust and common values such as democracy and the rule of law. Both leaders strongly condemned terrorism and advocated for comprehensive reforms of international bodies like the United Nations to enhance their contemporary relevance and effectiveness.
PM Modi’s visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Austria in 41 years, began with a ceremonial welcome at the Federal Chancery, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations. Chancellor Nehammer warmly received PM Modi, describing the visit as a special honor. The leaders engaged in private discussions aimed at realizing the full potential of the partnership, coinciding with 75 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
PM Modi anticipated productive discussions to further global welfare. His agenda includes meetings with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, dialogues with business leaders from both nations, and interactions with the Indian community in Vienna. These engagements are geared towards advancing mutual cooperation and strengthening ties for collective global progress.
