Morrisville

The fifth match of the 2024 Major League Cricket at Church Street Park in Morrisville turned into a rain-marred affair, ultimately ending with both Washington Freedom and Texas Super Kings sharing a point each. Despite the weather interruption, the match promised excitement from the outset. Faf du Plessis starred for Texas Super Kings in the first innings, smashing a brilliant century that propelled his team to a formidable total of 203/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Washington Freedom responded aggressively as their openers, Steve Smith and Travis Head, quickly accumulated runs, racing to 37/0 after just three overs. Head, benefiting from a dropped catch by Dwayne Bravo off Zia-ul-Haq in the third over, capitalized with a flurry of boundaries, amassing 24 runs in the subsequent over. By the fourth over, Washington Freedom had surged to 61/0 before rain intervened, halting play.

Unfortunately, with less than five overs completed in the second innings, the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method could not be applied, resulting in the match being declared a no result with points shared between the teams.

Despite the disappointment of another rain-affected match for Washington Freedom, they maintained an unbeaten record and claimed the top spot in the standings. Meanwhile, Texas Super Kings, led by du Plessis’ commanding innings earlier in the day, found themselves in fifth place after a promising start to their batting innings before losing momentum with the dismissals of Devon Conway and Aaron Hardie.
