BBMP Contractors Threaten Work Stoppage Over Unpaid Bills

Must read

Contractors working with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) have issued a stern warning to halt ongoing projects starting July 8, citing unpaid bills and unaddressed demands. The decision comes after months of unsuccessful appeals to the authorities.

The contractors, expressing frustration over the delay in payment of pending bills totaling around Rs 1,600 crore for projects executed over the past two years, have outlined nine key demands. These include the release of 25% of withheld dues, prompt settlement of bills from the Chief Accounts Officer’s office, and prioritization of building works payments.

Despite a meeting attended by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister where the contractors’ demands were discussed, the Chief Commissioner’s office has allegedly disregarded their pleas. This disregard has prompted the contractors’ association to announce a complete suspension of various ongoing works, encompassing tasks like ward works, road construction, rainwater management, white-topping projects, lake development, and horticulture activities.

G M Nanda Kumar, President of the contractors’ association, affirmed the collective decision to suspend operations until their demands are met. The association has emphasized that the cessation of work is a direct response to the administration’s inaction and their urgent need for resolution.
