The Indian Navy’s indigenous stealth frigate INS Shivalik, currently deployed in the South China Sea and Pacific Ocean, has arrived at Pearl Harbour to participate in the 29th edition of Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC), the world’s largest international maritime exercise held in Hawaii.

According to the US Navy, RIMPAC 2024 involves approximately 29 nations, 40 surface ships, three submarines, 14 national land forces, over 150 aircraft, and more than 25,000 personnel. The exercise, themed ‘Partners: Integrated and Prepared’, will continue until August 1.

Describing it as a significant step in fostering bilateral relations between India and the United States, the Indian Navy announced that the harbour phase of the exercise will run until July 7. Activities during this phase include professional interactions, cross-deck visits, workshops, and team-building sessions.

Hosted by the Commander of the US Pacific Fleet, RIMPAC 2024 will witness participating forces integrating and practicing a wide array of capabilities, ranging from disaster relief and maritime security operations to sea control and complex warfighting.

Vice Admiral John Wade, Commander of the US 3rd Fleet and RIMPAC 2024 Combined Task Force commander, emphasized the exercise’s role in enhancing relationships, interoperability, proficiency, and promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
