English fans have yearned for a major trophy since their 1966 FIFA World Cup victory. Despite having world-class talent, the Three Lions have never won the European Championship. This year’s team, featuring stars like Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, and Jude Bellingham, has been disappointing in the group stage, with one win and two draws.
In an interview with sources, Indian football legend Bhaichung Bhutia criticized England manager Gareth Southgate, blaming him for the team’s struggles. Gareth Southgate has been a major problem for England. With some of the best players in the world, he hasn’t found the right combination or formation in five years, Bhutia said. He questioned Southgate’s defensive tactics given the team’s attacking talent.
England, labeled favorites after reaching the 2020 European Championship final, barely topped Group C, which included Slovenia, Serbia, and Denmark, and scored the fewest goals (7) in a group in Euros history. Bhutia added, it’s not the players’ fault; it comes down to Southgate’s approach.
Despite their poor start, England remains hopeful for the knockout stages, beginning with a match against Slovakia on Sunday. They could face Italy and the Netherlands later but are relieved to be in a bracket away from Germany, Spain, Portugal, and France.
