President Droupadi Murmu’s recent joint speech faced criticism from Asaduddin Owaisi, a member of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). Owaisi described the speech as lacking innovation and merely repeating old ideas. He pointed out that issues like unemployment and minority concerns were not addressed. According to US State Secretary Antony Blinken, hate speech has increased in India, with reports of minorities’ places of worship being demolished.
Owaisi also criticized the handling of the NEET exam, highlighting leaks and claiming it jeopardizes the futures of millions of youths and their families. President Murmu, in her address to Parliament, condemned the 1975 emergency imposed by the Congress administration, led by then-PM Indira Gandhi. She acknowledged the turmoil caused during that period but praised the country’s resilience in overcoming such challenges.
Looking ahead, President Murmu hinted at forthcoming significant social and economic decisions to be disclosed during the upcoming Union Budget sessions.
