Two boys tragically lost their lives near the rainwater-flooded Siraspur underpass in northwest Delhi’s Samaypur Badli area on Saturday, according to police reports.
Delhi Police received a distress call about the drowning of a 12-year-old boy near the Siraspur underpass at Samaypur Badli Police Station around 2:25 PM. Upon arrival, authorities found the underpass, located near the metro, inundated with approximately 2.5-3 feet of water.
The fire brigade conducted a search operation and recovered the bodies of two boys. Initial investigations suggest that this may be a case of suspected drowning while the boys were bathing, police stated. Proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC are ongoing, they added.
Earlier on Friday, two children from Som Bazaar, Gamri in the New Usmanpur area tragically drowned after falling into a deep rainwater ditch while playing in the heavy rains. They were aged 8 and 10 years old. Heavy rainfall over the past two days in Delhi-NCR led to widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion, rain-related accidents, casualties, and injuries, prompting the authorities to implement measures to manage the situation.
