Hubli
Elections were held on Saturday for the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the third term of Hubli-Dharwad Metropolitan Corporation (HDMC). BJP’s Ramappa Badigera and Durgamma Bijwada have been elected as Mayor, Deputy Mayor respectively. The post of Mayor was reserved for Backward Class A and the post of Deputy Mayor was reserved for Scheduled Caste women.
Belagavi Regional Commissioner Sanjay Shettanavara, Additional Commissioner SS Biradara conducted the selection process. Ramappa Badigera of BJP who contested for the post of Mayor got 47 votes, Imran Eligara of Congress got 36 votes, Durgamma Bijwada of BJP contested for the post of Deputy Mayor got 47 votes and Mangalamma Hiremani of Congress got 36 votes.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, MLAs Arvinda Bellada, Mahesh Tenginakai, Prasada Abbaiah, Pradeep Shettar, SV Sankanur was present.
The names of Ramappa Badigera for the post of Mayor and Durgamma Bijwada for the post of Deputy Mayor were finalised in the meeting of BJP and supporting members of the corporation called on Friday night and Saturday morning.
