Health Concerns Prompt FSSAI To Consider Shawarma Ban

Must read

Following alarming findings of health hazards associated with shawarma consumption, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in Bengaluru is contemplating a ban on this popular food item. Recent tests conducted by the Food Safety and Quality Department revealed the presence of bacteria and yeast in a significant number of shawarma samples tested across the city. Out of 17 samples, 8 were found to contain bacteria, primarily due to improper food preparation practices.

This development comes in the wake of similar health concerns raised earlier about other popular foods like Gobi Manchuri, Kabab, and Panipuri, which were found to contain cancer-causing elements. The Karnataka Health Department had previously issued warnings against the use of dangerous artificial colors in kebabs and other food items.

In response to these findings, the FSSAI has mandated that all shawarma vendors in Bengaluru must possess FSSAI registration. Shops failing to produce this registration certificate face immediate action, including the possibility of a ban on shawarma sales. Additionally, strict guidelines have been issued to ensure cleanliness during the preparation of shawarma to mitigate health risks associated with bacterial contamination.
