Following threat emails that claimed timer-operated bombs were put at a state-run hospital and a prestigious institution in the state capital on Tuesday, Kolkata Police opened an investigation.
Official data indicates that the two institutions that received these bomb-scare emails are the state-run Rabindra Bharati University in the northern suburbs of the city and S.S.K.M. Medical College & Hospital in South Kolkata.
According to a city police spokesman, a similar bomb-scare email was also sent to a private university in the city.

According to sources, police officers including members of the bomb disposal squad and the sniffer dogs arrived to the locations where the email threats were received after receiving information.
As on the most recent information available, no unusual activity has been found, leading the authorities to believe that these emails were most likely scams. However, the municipal police’s cybercrime division has started the process of identifying the IP address and then discovering the sender based on the email address used to send the emails.
