On Sunday, a senior municipal official in Hyderabad was reassigned from his position following the demolition of several structures outside former Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy’s residence in Hyderabad a day earlier.

Bhorkade Hemant Sahadeorao, an IAS officer serving as the Zonal Commissioner (Khairatabad Zone) at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), was relieved of his duties. GHMC Commissioner K. Amrapali instructed him to report to the General Administration Department.

The decision to transfer Sahadeorao came after the Telangana government expressed serious concern over the demolitions, which were executed without proper approval from higher authorities.

Reports indicated that the GHMC Zonal Commissioner had ordered the demolitions under directions from a Telangana minister residing near Jagan Mohan Reddy’s residence at Lotus Pond in Jubilee Hills.

The controversy erupted when several structures erected on the footpath outside Jagan Mohan Reddy’s residence were demolished on Saturday. GHMC’s Town Planning staff used excavator machinery to dismantle these structures, which were reportedly used by security personnel during Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visits to Hyderabad. These constructions were established in 2019 after he assumed office as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

The demolition occurred shortly after Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party, YSR Congress, suffered a significant electoral defeat in Andhra Pradesh.
