A fatal landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in Sikkim’s Mangan district has claimed the lives of at least three individuals. Following intense downpours, three people remain unaccounted for in the Pakshep and Ambithang localities of the district, according to officials.

A senior official reported that a landslide resulted in the destruction of one house, while seven other houses suffered partial damage. Additionally, one person sustained critical injuries and has been hospitalized.

The relentless rain has caused blockages on the Mangan-Gangtok and Mangan-Singhik routes, prompting authorities to deploy crews for road restoration efforts. Near the Bringbong Police outpost, another landslide has forced personnel to relocate. Meanwhile, a bridge base in the Sakalang area has sustained damage, with concerns about its imminent collapse.

Authorities have also noted communication issues in North Sikkim due to a non-functional mobile network, with ongoing efforts aimed at restoring connectivity.
