In Amman, the capital of Jordan, a High-Level Conference on ‘Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza’ was attended by India. Representing New Delhi was Muktesh Pardeshi, Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs. He spoke about India’s ongoing efforts in humanitarian aid, capacity building, and development. The conference was co-hosted by King Abdullah of Jordan, President Alsisi of Egypt, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

India’s support to Palestine has totaled nearly USD 120 million, with an additional USD 2.5 million committed to UNRWA for relief efforts. The conflict in Gaza escalated on October 7 with a terror attack by Hamas, leading to a significant loss of life and a hostage situation. Israel responded with military operations aimed at Hamas, resulting in civilian casualties and termed a ‘humanitarian catastrophe’ by the United Nations, WHO, and rights organizations.
