In Mizoram, African Swine Fever (ASF) continues to cause significant damage, with approximately 1900 pigs already lost since April due to the outbreak. Authorities have culled 3415 pigs to contain the spread of the virus. The pork business in the bordering state has been severely affected by ASF, according to officials and traders. The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary (AHV) Department has identified six districts, Aizawl, Champhai, Lunglei, Saitual, Khawzawl, and Serchhip as ASF-infested, while the remaining five are relatively safe.

Kolasib district is also under suspicion due to the rapid spread of the disease. Under the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Disease in Animals Act, 2009, various villages and localities in these districts have been declared infected areas. The department has prohibited the supply of pigs, piglets, and pork from these areas and banned the import of pigs and piglets from neighboring states and countries with persistent ASF issues. AHV Department surveillance teams are culling pigs with lime powder in designated areas and educating people on handling the situation.
