In Kamrup district, Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited relief camps on Sunday to assess conditions of inmates as the state grappled with ongoing floods. At three relief camps, inmates were met by Sarma, who interacted with them and instructed the district administration to provide necessary assistance. Essential supplies and facilities provided to inmates were reviewed, and the administration was directed to ensure medical care, safe drinking water, and other relief materials.
Sarma also visited Nahira Guimara Regional High School, where he engaged with 236 individuals housed temporarily, directing the Kamrup district authorities to maintain adequate supplies at the camp. Assurances were given by the CM regarding implementation of flood management measures to handle the situation effectively. According to official reports, 23,96,648 people across 107 revenue circles and 3,535 villages in 29 districts of Assam were affected by floods.
River Brahmaputra at Neamatighat (Jorhat), Tezpur (Sonitpur), and Dhubri (Dhubri) were reported flowing above danger levels, along with others like Burhidihing at Chenimari (Dibrugarh), Dikhou at Sivasagar, Disang at Nanglamuraghat (Sivasagar), Dhansiri at Numaligarh (Golaghat), Kopili at Dharamtul (Nagaon), Kushiyara at Karimganj, and Barak river at (B P Ghat) Cachar. The Regional Meteorological Centre at Borjhar issued a ‘watch’ notification for heavy rain expected at isolated places in Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Cachar, and Karimganj.
