Chennai police suspect ‘revenge murder’ linked to slain gangster Arcot Suresh’s assassination
Chennai
The Madras High Court addressed K Porkodi’s plea regarding the burial of her husband, slain Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu Chief K Armstrong, assassinated near his Chennai residence by unidentified men. Justice V Bhavani Subbarayan considered the petition, noting the proposed burial site at the party office was in a passage. The judge asked if an alternative location was available, given the office’s residential area. The petitioner’s counsel requested until 1 p.m. to propose an alternative, but none was provided, leading to a postponement of the hearing to 2:15 p.m.
In her petition, K Porkodi sought court approval to bury Armstrong at the BSP office in Chennai. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government opposed this due to the locality’s residential nature.
Armstrong’s remains are at Corporation School Ground in Chennai for public homage. Mayawati and BSP national coordinator Akash Anand paid respects earlier. Mayawati urged transferring the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), emphasizing law and order and weaker sections’ safety. Police arrested eight suspects and are investigating. Following Armstrong’s brutal killing, Chennai police suspect involvement of associates of gangster Arcot Suresh, murdered last August.
