Traders should not be harassed for renewal of excise licences. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah gave a clear instruction to the Excise department officials that there should be a mandatory prevention of smuggling of liquor from neighboring states into Karnataka.

He gave this notice after conducting a progress review meeting of the Excise Department on Tuesday.

He suggested that the officials should make maximum efforts to reach the target which is fixed based on the tax collection capacity of the department.

Officials informed that the tax collection growth rate has not reached the expected level due to the election code of conduct. The Chief Minister suggested that it be filled in the next few days.

The Chief Minister directed to submit a proposal to the government regarding   appointment of Constables, Sub-Inspectors and the requirement of vehicles in the department.

Provision of services of the department online and provision of violation and illegal cases related to the Excise Department as well as an opportunity to record and follow the inspection of the officials is envisaged in this.
