The Himachal Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, announced an increase in diet allowances and travel provisions for state athletes, following a boost in prize money for international championship winners. Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted these enhancements, emphasizing the government’s commitment to support sports in the state.
Under the revised provisions, diet allowances for athletes in state, district, and block-level events have been substantially raised to Rs. 400, Rs. 300, and Rs. 240, respectively. For events outside the state, athletes will now receive Rs. 500. Additionally, athletes in sports hostels will now get Rs. 250 up to elementary education and Rs. 400 for others.
Travel provisions have also been upgraded, with athletes traveling up to 200 kilometers eligible for AC-3 Tier train fare, and those traveling further qualifying for economy class airfare.
Chief Minister Sukhu reiterated the government’s focus on nurturing talent and excellence in sports by improving training conditions and participation incentives. The increased prize money for medal winners in international championships further demonstrates the state’s commitment to promoting sports and recognizing athletes’ achievements.
