Adani Airport Holdings achieved a milestone by handling one million tonnes of air cargo in the fiscal year 2023-2024, according to a company filing on Sunday. The company managed over 10 lakh metric tonnes of cargo across seven airports, capturing a 30.1% market share. This marked a 7% year-on-year increase from the previous fiscal, which recorded 9,44,912 metric tonnes.
In FY 2023-2024, 65% of the cargo managed was international, showcasing the company’s ability to handle global operations while maintaining a domestic presence. Major international destinations included Germany, Netherlands, UAE, UK, and USA, while key domestic locations were Delhi, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. The international cargo tonnage amounted to 6,62,258 metric tonnes, reflecting a 9% year-on-year growth compared to 6,06,348 metric tonnes in the previous year.
The cargo operations were driven by commodities such as automobiles, pharmaceuticals, perishables, electricals/electronics, and engineering goods. In March 2024, Mumbai International Airport, under Adani Airport Holdings, recorded the highest cargo volumes for the fiscal year. At Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (Ahmedabad), Indigo’s first A320 neo freighter was handled on 18 May, 2024. Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (Lucknow) achieved its highest-ever volume of 700 tonnes in March 2024.
During 2023-24, the company added new freight operators, including Challenge Group, CMA CGM Air Cargo, Air Pace, Kenya Airways, Indigo, and Uganda Airlines. Mumbai International Airport received two major awards: Cargo Airport of the Year – Region India at Air Cargo India 2024 and The Best Cargo Airport – Efficiency & Digitization at the India Cargo Awards 2023.
