New Delhi

Recently qualifying for the Paris Olympics, young Indian boxer Nishant Dev is confident that his strategic use of strength will be pivotal in the ring at the 2024 Games. His qualification came after a resounding victory over Moldova’s Vasile Cebotari in the men’s 71kg quarterfinals at the World Boxing Qualifiers in Bangkok.

Discussing his training approach, Nishant emphasized the importance of both hard work and smart work, prioritizing rest ahead of the Olympics. Firstly, I will focus on hard work, train harder, and keep improving my strengths, and then smart work, give my body proper rest, and keep it hydrated before the Olympics, he stated.

When questioned about his strengths, Nishant highlighted his versatile skill set, including power, speed, and timing. However, he emphasized the judicious use of power, stating, I use it when needed. Skills are actually more important when you enter the ring.

Nishant, 23, previously won a bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Despite setbacks, including a childhood shoulder injury that resurfaced in 2022, requiring surgery and extensive rehab, he made a remarkable comeback to win the National Boxing Championships in Hisar in January 2023.
