Karthik Kumar’s ex-wife, Suchitra, recently made a derogatory comment about the actor, alleging that he is gay. Karthik Kumar condemned these claims as false and filed a defamation suit against her, seeking Rs 1 crore in damages for harming his reputation.
The defamation case was heard at the Madras High Court on May 24, where the judge issued an interim order prohibiting Suchitra from making further comments about Karthik Kumar. The next hearing is scheduled for July 1, when it will be determined whether Karthik Kumar will receive the Rs 1 crore compensation.
Karthik Kumar married singer Suchitra in 2005, but they divorced in 2017 after 12 years of marriage. The breakup followed controversial statements made by Suchitra about Kollywood stars. Karthik attributed the split to concerns about her mental stability. In 2021, Karthik Kumar married actress Amrutha Srinivasan and has since been living a peaceful life. He has not appeared frequently in movies over the past decade, with his last role being a chef in the Nayanthara-starrer ‘Annapoorani’.
In her recent statements, Suchitra also made accusations against other cinema stars, including Dhanush and Aishwarya Rajinikanth, adding to the controversy.
