Officials revealed on Thursday that Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD president Lalu Prasad, has been named in one of the FIRs linked to alleged irregularities during polling in Bihar’s Saran Lok Sabha constituency and subsequent clashes resulting in a fatality earlier this week. Ms. Acharya contested as the Mahagathbandhan candidate in Saran against BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

The state government has extended the suspension of internet services in the district for an additional two days until May 25, while also initiating the process to seize the properties of the accused. The violence occurred in Bada Telpa area on Tuesday morning, resulting in one death and two injuries.

Police have registered four FIRs to investigate irregularities during the polling on May 20 and the subsequent violence. Two individuals have been arrested thus far. An FIR against Ms. Acharya was filed under various sections of the Representation of People Act, 1951, based on a complaint by Manoj Kumar, a representative of the BJP’s Saran nominee. The complaint has been converted into an FIR.

Authorities have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to apprehend the accused and have initiated the process to attach the properties of absconding individuals. Saran District Magistrate Aman Samir assured that the situation is under control, with heightened security measures in place. Additionally, senior RJD leaders met the family members of Chandan Rai, who was killed in the violence, and provided financial assistance.
