Celebrating the fourth anniversary of the Left government in Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan unveiled plans to foster a knowledge-based economy and eliminate extreme poverty in the state by November 1, 2025. Reflecting on the government’s achievements, Vijayan highlighted the emphasis on bolstering basic infrastructure and welfare initiatives.

Our aim is to transition Kerala into a knowledge-driven economy, focusing on infrastructural advancements and social welfare enhancements. We are diligently addressing shortcomings and bridging gaps across various sectors, stated Vijayan. Kerala currently boasts the lowest poverty rate in India, and efforts are underway to eradicate extreme poverty by the specified date.

Vijayan praised the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) as a national model for efficient recruitment practices, contrasting it with the Union government’s failure to fill vacancies in central establishments. Since 2016, the Left government has facilitated 2.5 lakh PSC appointments, created 30,000 additional positions, and established a dedicated recruitment board for state public sector enterprises.

Despite facing financial constraints imposed by the Union government, Kerala has garnered international recognition for its accomplishments. Vijayan highlighted the significant increase in Kerala’s own revenue contribution under the Left government, reaching 73% of the total revenue, compared to 26% during the previous administration. Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Kerala has managed to fund most expenditures from its own revenue sources.
