CM Addresses Urban Development Concerns And Monsoon Preparedness

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed several critical issues concerning urban development and monsoon preparedness. Alongside Urban Development Minister Bairathi Suresh and Ramalingareddy BDA President, in a press conference held after the city rounds on Wednesday.

CM highlighted the imperative to address flooding concerns ahead of the impending monsoon season, particularly in light of reports indicating heightened flood risks due to anticipated heavy rainfall.

DCM DK Shivakumar’s visit to Yelahanka, where water inundated 20 houses, prompted directives for the Forest Department to facilitate water diversion to Yelahanka Lake from BBMP. Concerns arose over inadequate drainage infrastructure near the Wind Anjaneya temple, prompting plans for the construction of additional culverts to mitigate flood risks.

The CM highlighted ongoing efforts to clear silt and improve drainage, stressing the need to speed up pending works and resolve legal disputes hindering progress. Urgent pothole repairs across the city were advised, targeting 5500 potholes on ward roads and 557 on main roads within a month. Infrastructure projects like road widening near Silk Board and drainage enhancements near Madiwala Lake were prioritized to ease traffic congestion and reduce flood risks. Action was also taken on stalled flyover construction in Ejipur, including terminating the existing contract and appointing a new contractor.

Prior to the monsoon, inspections were conducted at various sites to evaluate flood preparedness, stressing the importance of robust management systems for road maintenance and pothole repair. The CM urged engineers to ensure thorough monsoon readiness and held them accountable for any deficiencies resulting in water seepage.
