A young journalist from Chikkamagaluru, SK Vijayakumar, has been selected for the Rohit Rajanna Journalism Award. Vijayakumar hails originally from Hassan district. Despite being born and raised in poverty, he has maintained unwavering loyalty and commitment to journalism.
Before this recognition, he worked with newspapers such as Gnandeepa, Hassanamitra, and Janamitra in Hassan through newspaper distribution, initially starting his career as a journalist. He joined Vijayavani in 2012 and later moved to Prajavani in Chikkamagaluru. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a special concern for the marginalized segments of society.
His work, “Budhiyagada Kendra,” published in 2015, received acclaim. The article titled “Waited All Night for Rice” is included as a text for the fourth semester of the BA course at Mysuru University.
Vijayakumar, aged 44, is determined to advance further in the field of journalism. Recognizing his professionalism, the Indian Mass Media and Research Institute (IMSR) has decided to honor him with the Rohit Rajanna Journalism Award. Last year, the same award was bestowed upon Jagannath Kalenahalli.
Rohit Rajanna gained prominence as a reporter for Vijay Times and Times of India at a young age. Following his untimely demise, his father, Rajanna, has been presenting the award annually in his son’s memory. IMSR has taken on the responsibility of supporting these endeavors.
IMSR, founded by journalists and experts in journalism education, aims to train and inspire young journalists in modern technology, as stated by senior journalist and board member HR Sreesha.
