Feasibility Study Underway For Namma Metro Extension To Tumakuru

Must read

The proposed extension of the Namma Metro to Tumakuru is undergoing a feasibility study to determine its viability. If deemed feasible, the project will be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and will feature 19 elevated stations strategically located to serve key areas and enhance travel within Tumakuru.

The extension aims to alleviate travel time and traffic congestion in the region. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah previously announced the metro’s extension to Tumakuru in the state budget, prompting the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to initiate tenders for the feasibility study. Home Minister G Parameshwara has also advocated for extending the metro to his hometown.

According to a BMRCL official, the feasibility study will provide stakeholders with insights into the project’s viability. However, completion of the study does not guarantee the extension of the metro to Tumakuru.

In addition to the Tumakuru extension, the BMRCL invited tenders in February for studying the feasibility of a metro network spanning 118 kilometers. This network includes stretches such as Challaghatta to Bidadi, Silk Institute to Harohalli, Bommasandra to Attibele, and Kalena Agrahara (Gottigere) to Kadugodi via Jigani, Anekal, Sarjapura, and Varthur. Meanwhile, progress continues on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Sarjapura Road-Hebbal metro line, which will feature 36 metro stations. Officials anticipate submitting the DPR to the Karnataka government once the election code of conduct concludes.
