CH News

The BBMP has implemented various precautionary measures ahead of the monsoon season to mitigate potential calamities on Friday. Continuous desilting of the Raj Canal, Secondary Raj Canal, and drains is underway. Waste clearance along roadside shoulder drains aims to ensure smooth water flow.

Cleaning efforts extend to arterial and sub-arterial road drains, with ongoing removal of accumulated building waste. KSNDMC’s installation of water level sensors at 124 locations along Raj canals enhances flood response capabilities within BBMP’s jurisdiction.

Each sensor, powered by solar energy, transmits real-time data to the KSNDMC control room, which then relays it to the Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC). Color-coded alerts—green, blue, red, and black—indicate water levels, signaling potential flood risks. Residents are promptly notified to evacuate if necessary, preventing flood-related disasters.

Of the 860 km Raj Canal network, 581 km features RCC barrages, with ongoing RCC barrier construction for the remaining 199 km. Dredging activities accelerate in areas with RCC barrages, focusing on promptly clearing removed silt.

Additionally, efforts target 74 flood-prone areas in the city, ensuring temporary relief measures and progressing towards permanent solutions ahead of the monsoon’s onset.
