Plans for 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital at K C General Hospital: Sudhakar

Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Wednesday said “Plans are on the anvil to build 100-bedded Mother and Child Hospital at K C General Hospital on the lines of Vani Vilas Hospital.
Sudhakar was speaking after inaugurating upgraded ICU and newly installed equipment sponsored by Opentext and Nirman at K C General Hospital.
Continuing, Sudhakar said “As announced in the budget already, 500-bedded super speciality hospitals will be built in four parts of Bengaluru under Public- Private- Partnership (PPP) model. The proposals are expected this year and the sites will be identified to lay Foundation stone soon, said Sudhakar.
The private players have sponsored 10 bedded ICU in K C General Hospital, along with required equipment. It is a matter of pride that Asha workers and other health workers are being trained to check deaths due to pneumonia involving kids below five years age group.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’ scheme, Sudhakar said “a stringent law already exists to check female foeticide. However, the amended NTP law allows termination of pregnancy in the case of those foetuses found abnormal in growth and the mothers health is in danger. There is a need to create awareness on this”, suggested Sudhakar.
An estimated 1.5 lakh children below five years age have been dying due to pneumonia. Of 1,000 newborns in Karnataka, 28 diedue to pneumonia. It has to be reduced to four to five according to the target set by World Health Organisation (WHO). It can be possible by creating awareness, added Sudhakar.
Giving a clarion call for bringing changes in K C General Hospital, Sudhakar said “The hospital is in the heart of the city. But the patients should be provided with a homely treatment. Jayadeva and Vani Vilasa Hospitals are providing quality service than private hospitals, but why isn’t possible here (K C General Hospital)”.
