Cubbon Park Walkers Seek Answers From Lok Sabha Candidates

Must read

The Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association is set to host an interactive session between park regulars and candidates vying for the Bengaluru (Central) Lok Sabha seat.

Scheduled for April 14th at 7 am in the Central Library within the park, the event aims to address concerns about the preservation of Cubbon Park. As one of Bengaluru’s last green lungs, the park faces threats to its existence, notably from proposals for a 10-storey building construction.

Expressing their intent, the association emphasized the need for candidates to articulate their strategies for safeguarding the park’s integrity.

Park regulars, lamenting increasing restrictions on park usage, underscored the park’s evolving nature, which limits public access. Cubbon Reads, a weekly reading group convening at the park, took to social media platform to voice frustrations over perceived over-policing, highlighting instances of guards reprimanding visitors for carrying mats and covertly recording park activities.

Community voices have echoed concerns, advocating for collaborative efforts between park management and visitors rather than stringent regulations.

Simultaneously, ongoing protests have rallied against the proposed 10-storey annexe for the Karnataka High Court within Cubbon Park, further emphasizing the urgency of preserving this vital green space amidst urban development pressures.
