TRAI Proposes 5G Infrastructure Deployment In Namma Metro Premises

Must read

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended the implementation of Cell on Wheels (CoWs) within Bengaluru metro stations to bolster network coverage and improve customer experience. This initiative seeks to ensure seamless connectivity by installing plug-and-play infrastructure in areas like car parking lots and open spaces within the metro stations.

The potential of 5G networks in Bengaluru’s metro stations is immense, offering opportunities for enhanced services such as accurate route maps and proximity-based digital signage. Security measures are also crucial, with 5G networks enabling high-definition video surveillance and AI-powered security monitoring for real-time analysis.

TRAI’s pilot project, conducted at Bengaluru Metro stations, explored the deployment of 5G Small Cell and Aerial Fibre using existing street furniture. However, challenges arose concerning safety concerns related to high-tension electric cables and structural stability issues, which hindered the installation of certain telecom equipment.

An official highlighted the significance of adopting 5G networks in Bengaluru to drive economic growth, particularly in metro infrastructure. TRAI is actively working on a Policy Framework to facilitate the deployment of next-generation communication infrastructure in critical locations like Bengaluru’s metro stations. The pilot project conducted at Namma Metro, Bengaluru, aimed to address operational challenges and establish a regulatory framework for future deployment of 5G infrastructure in metro environments.
