Cholera Outbreak Raises Alarm Amidst City’s Water Shortage

Must read

Concerns have escalated following a cholera outbreak transmitted through contaminated water and food. The discovery of cholera infections among students at Bengaluru Medical College’s hostel within Victoria Hospital has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving PG owners and residents in the area apprehensive.

Nine individuals have been confirmed with cholera in Bengaluru over the past two months, prompting swift action from the PG Owners Association to protect its residents. Guidelines have been implemented for PGs citywide to curb the further spread of the disease, with the association notifying all owners about the situation and scheduling an emergency meeting next week to issue comprehensive directives.

These guidelines include prohibitions on outside food, mandatory routine cleanliness of kitchen areas, installation of RO water filters, provision of hot meals, and vigilant monitoring of residents’ health. Residents are urged to promptly report any health changes, with arrangements made for immediate hospitalization if cholera symptoms manifest.

Emphasis is placed on regular cleaning of premises, including common areas like kitchens, and strict adherence to rules by all residents. This collective effort aims to mitigate the risk of cholera transmission within PG communities and ensure the safety of all occupants amidst the ongoing water crisis in Bengaluru.
